I recently moved from Debian to FreeBSD on my Raspberry pi. This thread will help you to go easy with raspberry pi.
Probelm 1:
/usr/ports missing
you have to run
portsnap fetch
and then portsnap extract
/usr/ports directories will be created and ready to go.
